Australian coins minted from 1953 onwards feature Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse, as the current monarch of the British empire.
The last predecimal coins were minted in Australia in 1964, and the last shilling in 1963, prior to Australia's conversion to decimal currency in 1966. The shilling retained the 'rams head' reverse throughout this period.
Higher mintages and higher survival rates result in relatively low value of QEII coins, although they are still sought after in higher grades. Their silver content is a key contributing factor in the value of lower grade coins.
Mintage: 12,204,000

All Australian silver coins minted between 1910 and 1945 are 92.5% silver (sterling silver), while all Australian silver coins minted from 1946 to 1964 are 50% silver content.
