Australian Pre-Decimal Coins - Currency Guides Index
Our Australian pre-decimal coins currency guides are seperated in to denominations:
halfpenny, penny, threepence, sixpence, shilling, florin. (crown pending)
Each denomination is split in to three overview pages, each dedicated to a particular era:
King Edward VII / King George V, King George VI, Queen Elizabeth II.
These overview pages include basic specifications, such as dates, mintage, and approximate retail values for early Australian coins in average circulated condition. (Very Good to Fine, no significant detractors).
The overview pages also have links to each date's individual resource page, which have more detailed and specific information, images of the obverse and reverse of the coin, mintage, etc. We have also included estimated retail value of each Australian pre-decimal coin, based on grade.
Our guides are intended be read in context with each other. For instance, when determining value grading is a significant factor, but not the only factor.
Just above this section, to the right, you will find a link to our Coin Grading Guides index page for your convenience.
TDK APDC considers Value to be based on Condition (combination of Grade and Detractors), Scarcity, Supply, & Demand as follows:
Grade (degree of wear relative to initial minted state)
Detractors (such as grott, marks and damage, cleaning, verdigris, pitting, etc.)
Scarcity (mintage / survival rate / population in particular condition / availability)
